Sauerland Run (2024)

Who'd have thought we should have put 'snow chains' on the Sauerland Run roadbook checklist? Although we'd rather had sunshine and dry roads, the weather contributed massively to the new memories that were made during the tour. The roads and the people did as well, of course!

Sauerland is one of the most beautiful holiday regions in Germany. It has a very varied landscape, most of which consists of low mountain ranges with peaks of over 840 metres and deep valleys in between. Vast forests, grassy meadows, crystal-clear streams and rivers, inviting reservoirs, Sauerland has it all. Winterberg ski area is famous for its easy slopes. We didn't expect that April would bring snow to the region, but it did.

The Sauerland landscape is more mountainous than the Eifel region is. It feels you're closer to the mountains - which you are not actually. The roads were a nice change from the familiar Eifel roads. However, it's also a more heavily - relatively speaking - populatedarea, which shows on the roads. There tends to be more traffic.

Sauerland Run was special, and great fun was had by over 50 participants. We and the cars all returned save and sound, to finish the adventure with a joint Italian buffet lunch at Classic Remise Düsseldorf. Auf Wiedersehen!
