This website is not particulary about racing. It’s about road tripping and passionate people with a thing for sports cars and driving them. Jessi Combs, a.k.a. ‘fastest woman on four wheels’ fits that last part perfectly. She died on Tuesday 27th August, doing what she loved to do: pushing bounderies.
Team member and soulmate Terry Madden has confirmed her death on Instagram and his post is clear about what she has meant to him.
So I don’t know how to say any of this but it all needs said. I have never loved or been loved by anyone as much as this amazing woman @thejessicombs she was truly my unicorn and I enjoyed every single minute that I had with her. She was the most amazing spirit that I have ever or will ever know.
Terry Madden about his team mate and love of his life
Just three days before her death, Combs posted this picture of her jet-powered car to Instgram, acknowledging the danger she was about to put herself in.
Jessi earned the title of “the fastest woman on four wheels” after hitting 398 miles per hour in 2013 in the jet-powered North American Eagle Supersonic Speed Challenger. In the past few weeks she was preparing for beating her own record. She died trying. In the fatal car crash, she was aiming for 619 miles per hour on a dry lake bed in the Alvord Desert in Oregon.
Jessi has appeared in many impressive television programs. She was the cohost of the Spike TV show Xtreme 4×4 and she also appeared on Overhaulin’, Mythbusters, The List: 1001 Car Things to Do Before You Die, All Girls Garage, and How to Build…Everything.
Rest In Peace Jessi, and drive on.
